[edit]Compound of usus + buntu, calque of Dutch blindedarm (“caecum”, literally “blind intestine”).

[edit]- caecum: a cavity open at one end (such as the blind end of a duct), especially a blind pouch connected to the large intestine between the ileum and the colon.
- Synonym: sekum
- vermiform appendix: an organ consisting of a blind tube projecting from the caecum, without a known function.
