Etymology
[edit]Inherited from Proto-Indo-Aryan *udȷ́ʰagẓʰáti, from *ud (“out, outward”) + *ȷ́ʰagẓʰ-, reduplication of the root *ȷ́ʰas- (“to laugh”); compare Sanskrit हसति (hasati, “laughs”). By surface analysis, ud- + jagghati.
