[edit]Etymology
[edit]From um- (class 3) + -basa (“kindle a fire”) + -o (nominalizer). May refer to the first fires being lit for winter. However, this time of year is still very hot in KwaZulu-Natal. Another theory is that it refers to the time of year when fires are lit to roast maize.
