Uncertain. Perhaps from Proto-West Germanic *tuskijō (literally frog-catcher, frog-eater), related to Old English tosċa (frog, toad) (compare Old English frysċa (bittern) from frosċ (frog)); or alternatively derived from Proto-West Germanic *tūsōn (to ruffle), related to Old English tysse (coarse cloth).
