[edit]Etymology
[edit]Pronunciation
[edit]- IPA(key): /ˈtyø̯ˌsuo̯jeluˌʋɑltuːtetːu(ˣ)/, [ˈt̪yø̞̯ˌs̠uo̞̯je̞luˌʋɑ̝l̪t̪uːˌt̪e̞t̪ːu(ʔ)]
- Rhymes: -etːu
- Hyphenation(key): työ‧suojelu‧valtuu‧tet‧tu
Noun
[edit]työsuojeluvaltuutettu
- (occupational) safety representative, safety rep, health and safety representative (person elected by employees to represent them vis-à-vis (in dealings with) management and the authorities in all issues concerning health and safety at work)
Usage notes
[edit]Not to be confused with luottamusmies (“union representative, shop steward”), who deals with salaries, working hours, and similar issues.
It's best to use "occupational (health and) safety representative" in many kinds of English because the term "health and safety representative" has other meanings in countries that don't have legislation requiring such a representative of employees. In US English it can, for example, refer to someone designated by a company to deal with health and safety issues, for example during a construction project.
