[edit]From Proto-Micronesian *sulu, from Proto-Oceanic *suluq, from Proto-Malayo-Polynesian *suluq. Cognate with Cebuano sulo, Tagalog sulo, Malay suluh, and Marshallese til. Resemblance to English torch is coincidental, and solely orthographical.
