[edit]From Proto-Indo-European *trénkʷ-ye-ti, the ye-present of *trenkʷ- (“to push, press”). Cognate with Latvian triekt (“to beat, shake”), Proto-Germanic *þrinhwaną (“to press, push; to force”).[1]
