[edit]From Old Galician-Portuguese toutiço (“back of the head”) (13th century, Cantigas de Santa Maria), from a pre-Roman substrate of Iberia, from Proto-Indo-European *tewtéh₂ (“people, nation; heap?”), from Proto-Indo-European *tewh₂- (“to swell”).[1]
