Unadapted borrowing from Latin torcular Hērophilī (“Herophilos' winepress”), named after Greek physician Herophilos, while torcular was the Latin calque of Ancient Greek ληνός (lēnós, “anything shaped like a tub or trough; wine vat”), originally described by Herophilos.
