From Proto-West Germanic *tōgadura, equivalent to tō- +‎ gædere. Cognate with Old Frisian togadera (whence West Frisian togearre (together)), Middle Dutch tegader (together), Middle Low German tōgāder, togader, togadder (together), Middle High German zegater (together).
