- molybdomancy (ancient form of divination by interpreting shapes formed when molten metal, typically lead or tin is dropped into water; now chiefly practised for fun on New Year's Eve)
Usage notes
[edit]- Molybdomancy is a common New Year tradition in the Nordic countries and Germany, Switzerland and Austria.
- In Finland, tin used to be the favorite metal for New Year molybdomancy - hence the name - but is now replaced by cheaper lead.
