[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish تذلیل (teẕlil, “a making to be submissive and humble”),[1][2] from Arabic تَذْلِيلْ (taḏlīl), verbal noun of ذَلَّلَ (ḏallala, “to degrade, to make humble, to defeat, to overpower”).[3]
