  1. (chemistry) A synthetic derivative of ethylenediamine containing four hydroxyl groups and a C2H5 radical used in the preparation of detergents, emulsifiers, resins, plasticizers, toxicants, chelating agents, germicides, de-emulsifiers, and pharmaceuticals.
