[edit]Attested from 1402. Plural of tesoira, from Old Galician-Portuguese, from Latin tonsōria (forfex), from tōnsor (“hair cutter”), from tondeō (“I shear”). Compare Portuguese tesoura, Spanish tijera, Asturian tixeres, tisories, Catalan tisores.
