Etymology

    Perhaps from Proto-Italic *terzeznos, from *terzos +‎ *-nos, the first of which from Proto-Indo-European *tersos, neuter s-stem to the root *ters- (dry).[1]
    Alternatively, from the locative form *terrai of terra and -nus. [2]
