From tepe (the crown (head), summit, apex) +‎ -(s)i (possessive suffix with "s" as buffer consonant) +‎ -(n)e (dative suffix with "n" as buffer consonant), literally to put someone on top of one's head. Cognate with Kazakh төбесіне шығару (töbesıne şyğaru).
