[edit]From Proto-Semai *təbeeᵍŋ, from Proto-Aslian *təbiŋ (“full”), from Proto-Mon-Khmer *dpəɲ ~ *[d]pu[ə]ŋ ~ *tbiɲ ~ *tbiiɲ ~ *tbiəɲ ~ *tbəɲ (“full”). Cognate with Khmer ពេញ (pɨñ), Northern Khmer ปิฺญ, Mon ပေၚ် (pɔiŋ, “to be full, complete”), Bahnar 'bĕnh (“full”), Pacoh pânh (“full”) and Khasi tbeng (“as if full”).
