talwm

Welsh

[edit]

Etymology

[edit]

Alteration of talm (an interval, while, number (of years)).

This etymology is missing or incomplete. Please add to it, or discuss it at the Etymology scriptorium.
Particularly: “GPC doesn't give an etymology or cognates. Perhaps derived from Proto-Indo-European *del- (to reckon, calculate), whether via borrowing or inheritance? In particular, compare Proto-Germanic *talą (speech; number) - "calculate" > "number" > "interval" wouldn't be a big semantic shift.”
