Etymology 2

A variant of talinong, according to the Vocabulario de la lengua tagala (1860), from the Tinguianes, literally, hilldwellers (cf. Malay tinggi (high; tall)), near the area of modern San Pablo, Laguna, Nagcarlan, Laguna, and Lucena, Quezon, likely referring to the area near Mount Banahaw (not to be confused with Tinguian people or Itneg in the Cordilleras).
