Etymology

From Proto-Algonquian *takwaha·kana (mortar, mill). Cognate with Abenaki taguahôgan (mill, mortar), Penobscot takʷáhαkan, tákʷəhαkan (mortar), Mohegan-Pequot taqôk (mortar for pounding corn), and perhaps Unami kohòkàn (mortar, mill).
