[edit]From Ottoman Turkish تعقیبات (takibat), in the form of a plural of تعقیب (takib), from Arabic تَعْقِيب (taʕqīb). In Ottoman times, persecution rather than prosecution, with تعقیبات قانونیه (literally “legal persecution”) for the legal sense.
