[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Proto-Finnic *tahko, from Proto-Finno-Permic [Term?]. Cognate to Finnish tahko, Votic tahko (“wood block”), Udmurt тӥш (tiš, “axe eye, backside of a blade”), and Komi-Zyrian тыш (tyš, “axe eye”). The meaning of "hone" seen in the Finnic family is possibly originally from a compound word - *tahkokivi, as seen in Votic tahkotšivi (“hone”).
