Etymology
[edit]From Arabic طَهَّرَ (ṭahhara, “to circumcise”, literally “to purify”). The fortition of -h- to -ħ- happened early in this word; it is also reflected in the dictionary of Vassali, who otherwise always distinguishes these sounds.
