[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish تومسك (tümsek, “a prominence, protuberance, a process”),[1] from *tümse- (which lacks written record), from Ottoman Turkish توممك (tümmek, “to be protuberant, to rise as in a mound”), possibly from Proto-Turkic *tüm (“complete, whole, entire”).[2] By surface analysis, tüm + -se- + -k.
