Etymology

Inherited from Proto-Turkic *tōrak (cheese, dried milk), possibly ultimately from Proto-Iranian *tūray- (whey),[1] compare Khotanese ttūra (cheese).[2][3] Cognate with Chuvash турăх (turăh, sour milk) and through Bulgar, Hungarian túró (cottage cheese).[4]
