  1. (art) A style of postimpressionism that aims to synthesize varioous elements: the outward appearance of the thing depicted, the artist's feelings about it, and aesthetic considerations.
  2. (medicine, obsolete) The complete treatment of a fracture, restoring the parts to their proper place and holding them there.
