- 1999, Mickey Kawick, Real-Time Strategy Game Programming Using Direct 6.0, page 478:
- But the only landscape that would ever move would be water — if you can call it landscape. No other land really moves except in geologic time. In order for moving landscape to work, you'll need supertiles, and lots of them.
- 2001, Torben Ægidius Mogensen, “Board building - Hex tiles - the only way to go?”, in rec.games.design (Usenet):
- Alternatively, you can make "supertiles" that have more than 1 hex/rectangle each to get grouping. 4-6 areas per supertile is probably O.K. Not all areas on supertile need to be the same, but theer[sic] should not be more than two different terrains on a supertile.
