summer tire (plural summer tires)

  1. (automotive) A tire designed to have long tread life in warm conditions, that will maintain grip in wet and dry conditions, and will function in hot and cool weather, but does not maintain grip in cold or freezing conditions
  2. (slang) all-season tires (due to the fact that they are typically factory fitted to cars for summer use, and by law, they cannot be used in some jurisdictions in winter)
