[edit]From Proto-West Germanic *stalkungu, from Proto-Germanic *stalkōną (“to stalk, move stealthily”), from Proto-Indo-European *(s)telg, *(s)tolg-.[1] Equivalent to *stealcian (“to stalk”) + -ung. Compare Old Frisian stalkense (“stealthiness”).
