[edit]From the same Proto-Slavic root *sьrd-, *serd- (“middle”) found in *sьrdьce (“heart”) and *serda (“Wednesday”). Compare Upper Sorbian srjedź, Polish wśród, Slovene srédi, and Russian среди́ (sredí).
