1. (mathematics) In operator theory, a set $X\subseteq \mathbb {C}$ such that, for a (possibly unbounded) linear operator $T$ on a Banach space, the spectrum of $T$ is in $X$ and von Neumann's inequality holds for $T$ on $X$.
