Swedish
[edit]Etymology
[edit]somna (“fall asleep”) + om (“re-, again”)
Verb
[edit]somna om (present somnar om, preterite somnade om, supine somnat om, imperative somna om)
- to fall asleep again, after having woken up; to go back to sleep
- Jag lyckades somna om efter att jag avstyrt lönnmördaren, men blev väckt av ännu en lönnmördare
- I managed to go back to sleep after averting the assassin, but was awakened by yet another assassin
Usage notes
[edit]The present and past participles omsomnande (going back to sleep) and omsomnad (gone back to sleep) are perfectly understandable, though quirky-sounding, like in English.
