[edit]Ultimately from Hungarian szoba (“stove”), either through Ottoman Turkish صوبا (soba, “stove”) or Serbo-Croatian sȍba/со̏ба (“room; (archaic) stove”), possibly even a conflation of both sources. Doublet of stufë.
