[edit]From Old Swedish snøgha, a parallel form to snioa (“to snow”) with an epenthetic hiatus-filling -g-, cf. the -g in stuga, loge, mogen, trogen, redobogen and roga. Compare dialectal Norwegian Nynorsk snøga.
