[edit]Etymology
[edit]From Yiddish תּשובֿה (tshuve, “answer”), from Hebrew תְּשׁוּבָה (t'shuvá, “answer”). The shift from -v- to -g- is possibly due to association with mesjogge. Alternatively, via Yiddish from a Hebrew noun of the root שׁ־ג־ח (forming words relating to supervision; e.g. the verb הִשְׁגִּיחַ (hishgí'akh, “to supervise”)).
