[edit]From an Ojibwe word, given by some English dictionaries as pemitewiskawet ("fish with oily meat") (compare bimide (“grease”), -skaw- (“meat of a fish”), -e (“an incorporating final”)), perhaps via French ciscoette.[1][2]
