- (mechanical engineering) A device consisting of a structural platform which can be used to launch ships by lowering them into the water, or to lift them into dry dock.
Usage notes
[edit]- Not to be confused with boat lift, which refers to a device which lifts vessels from one water level to another, while keeping them afloat.
