Etymology

Unknown; suggested to borrowed from Southwestern Iranian, compare Middle Persian 𐫘𐫃 (sg /⁠sak, sag⁠/, dog),[1] but this theory is both geographically and sociohistorically problematic.[2] Compare Proto-Slavic Proto-Slavic *sǫka (bitch).
