[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish سیر و سفر (seyr ü sefer), from Classical Persian سیر و سفر (sayr u safar, “travel”), from Arabic سَيْر (sayr, “movement, traffic”) and Arabic سَفَر (safar, “travel”). By surface analysis, seyir + ü + sefer.
