Etymology

sed ((implied good) custom) +‎ -lös (-less). The middle s and e is by analogy to orkeslös, vårdslös, samvetslös, and so on. Compare Danish sædeløs, Norwegian sedeløs, sedløs, Old Norse siðlauss, German sittenlos.
