Etymology

From Proto-Mon-Khmer *(s)ʔəm ~ *(s)ʔəəm ~ *(s)ʔuum ~ *(s)ʔuəm (warm); cognates include Khmer ស្អំ (sʼɑm, warm), Vietnamese ấm (warm) and Khasi om-om (slightly warm). Malay suam is probably a Mon-Khmer loan.
