Etymology

From Middle High German snüeren, from Old High German *snuoren (in firsnuoren), possibly from Proto-Germanic *snōrijaną, from *snōrō, whence German Schnur. Cognate with Dutch and Middle Dutch snoeren, Middle Low German snȫren, Old Norse snœra.
