From Old Galician-Portuguese sacrifiçio, sacrifiço, a semi-learned borrowing from Latin sacrificium (sacrifice), from sacrificō (to sacrifice), from sacer (sacred) + faciō (do, make). Displaced Old Portuguese sacrifiço.
