Etymology

From søring (“southerner”) +‎ karantene (“quarantine”). Originated in (the coverage of) the response to 2020 coronavirus pandemic, wherein some municipalities of Northern Norway (in spite of national guidelines) in the early stages of the pandemic illegally instated quarantine rules affecting people arriving from the south of Norway.
