[edit]Borrowed from Latin ruspāre (“to scrounge, search”). First attested in 1561.

- (intransitive) to scratch, to scrabble, to peck about (in search of food; of poultry) [auxiliary avere]
- (intransitive, uncommon) to rake the ground looking for chestnuts after a harvest [auxiliary avere]
- (transitive) to bulldoze, to work (land, a field, etc.) using a bulldozer
