[edit]From Old French ruissel, from Vulgar Latin *rivuscellum (“brook, stream”), from Latin *rīvusculum (“creek, rivulet”) + -ellum (“-elle: forming diminutives”), from rīvus (“rivulet”) + -usculum (“-cule: forming diminutives”). Compare Italian ruscello.
