[edit]Inherited from Ottoman Turkish ریاضیات (riyażiyyāt)[1] or ریاضیه (riyażiyye, “mathematics, mathematical questions and investigations”),[2] from Arabic رِيَاضِيَّات (riyāḍiyyāt), feminine plural of رِيَاضَة (riyāḍa, “mathematics”) verbal noun of رَاضَ (rāḍa, “to tame, to domesticate”).[3]
