Inherited from Old Spanish rinnon (kidney), from Vulgar Latin *rēniōnem, from Latin rēn (kidney), from Proto-Italic *hrēn, possibly from Proto-Indo-European *gʷʰren- (an internal part of the body). Cognate with French rognon and Italian rognone.
