[edit]Borrowed from translingual Reduviidae, from Reduvius (genus name) + -idae (taxonomic suffix), from Latin reduvia (“a remainder, remnant, fragment”), describing the habit of the nymph of Reduvius personatus camouflaging itself with small pieces of debris.
