[edit]From Proto-Cariban *pɨrôw (“arrow”); compare Apalaí pyrou, Trió pïrëu, Wayana pïlëu, Akawaio pöröw, Macushi pîrîu, Pemon püröu, Yao (South America) mappoeroe, as well as (from non-Cariban languages) Wayampi wɨwa.
